Day Four:
Martha's Vineyard

Sad to say, Martha's Vineyard was something of a disapointment. If you combine rude people with exorbiant prices and a whole bunch of tourists, you get a pretty good idea of what it was like. My first bad experience: unhelpful people at the parking lot sent us running in circles while we tried to find the bike bus. Even so, good weather and a good friend helped make it a fun day overall.
This Cape Cod harbor was bustling with ships and activity.
The trip from Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard was my first ferry ride, although not my first time in a big ship. Second bad experience: $10 for ferry tickets.
(OK I admit it. I'm cheap!)
As we pulled into Oak Bluffs we got to watch some para-sailers. It looked like a lot of fun.

Third bad experience: after disembarking at Oak Bluffs, we ate lunch near the pier. Paid $12 for lemonade and four little shrimp.

We did not stay long in Oak Bluffs... just long enough to rent a bicycle. We then headed south towards Edgarton.

For reasons that are not clear, I did not take any pictures until we had biked all the way to Katama Bay and South Beach. Something of a mental lapse, I guess.

The waves at South Beach were 8' and higher, fueled by Hurricane Dennis. South Beach directly faces the Atlantic. Naturally, we went for a swim.
It wasn't too long after this picture that I decided to put the camera down and hop in! I was rewarded for by bravery with assorted scrapes and bruises after being washed up on the beach. I now have a new found appreciation for the strength of an angry sea.
